Insulator Bowl

This bowl has been made from reclaimed insulators taken from the decommissioning of an electric tower (pylon) in North London.

The insulator is broken, glass cleaned and fused together and then re fused to slump into a bowl.

This bowl has been repaired using Kintsugi method also known as Kintsukuroi, is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
